Sacred Shadows, Wild Light

You are Sacred and Wild.

But with career ladders and laundry mountains to climb, it’s so easy to forget.
In our fragmented frenzied lives, there is always something else that needs our attention.

We’re gathering in the wilds of Somerset for divine Springtime awakenings, belly laughs, connection and at least one fire-based ceremony.
Join us knowing all of you is welcome to show up – including your shadowy bits. Come and claim the spectacular light in you.

Owning our Shadows,
Claiming our Light

When we resist owning our shadows, we rupture our capacity for wholeness, this stops us from expressing all of who we are.

We all have aspects of ourselves that we struggle to understand or find difficult to accept. Most of us have had the experience of being told that our emotions, thoughts or behaviour are unacceptable, wrong or some version of ‘too much’.

Our self-doubt is usually trying to protect us from the what we believe the consequences will be, of revealing our shadow sides. To keep ourselves safe, we will put these parts of us in shadow.

We also have ‘golden shadows’ – the unique aspects of our inherent quirks, innate intelligence, our power, gifts and capabilities.

We quash down these parts of ourselves too. We learn from our families, our communities and the wider culture, who we need to be in order to belong.

When we choose to own our shadows and claim our light, we create the conditions for us to become fully integrated, courageous humans.

We become unfuckingstoppable!

The Retreat

You’ll be welcomed at the house on Thursday evening. There will be time to put on your comfy pants and settle in before our welcome supper and opening ceremony.

On Friday and Saturday you’ll be led through a thoughtful and rich programme. There will be loads of time for relaxation, exploration, contemplation and conversation. Also on offer: massages and naps. Seriously.

On Saturday evening we’ll enjoy a celebratory supper together before the closing ceremony. After a luxurious lie-in and brunch, we’ll say our goodbyes on Sunday morning.

Hello you. I’m Sas Petherick.

I believe deeply in the power of compassionate acceptance – when we can acknowledge and appreciate all of our story. This is how the most vulnerable parts of us can come forward, knowing they are safe, so they may be witnessed, understood and integrated.

I’ve been leading retreats for seven years and I know there is something powerful and transformative that can only be accessed when women gather together in ritual space.

We need places where we can learn about ourselves and process our lives, outside of ‘real life’. So come to this retreat if you are interested in who you are underneath the daily demands and obligations, if you want to go deeper into who you are, if you are longing for your own attention. All of you is very welcome.

I have an MA in Coaching and Mentoring from Oxford Brookes University, and my Master’s dissertation was a deep study into self-doubt. At the core of my coaching methodology are proven approaches for cultivating self-acceptance, self-worth, self-trust, and self-belief.

People say my retreats have been the birthplace of deep and abiding change in their lives. I can’t wait to see what happens for you.

Kind Words

What past retreaters are saying…

“I’m going home with unstoppable, sober clarity. I’m feeling fully charged and I now know how to recharge. Go to this retreat if you are ready to step into the full expression of your luminous authentic self.

You will weep, you will laugh from your belly, you will be held so tenderly and fiercely by a woman who is unafraid of asking you the difficult questions and walking with you as the answers appear.”

Dr Mary Lummis

“You don’t need a reason to attend this retreat, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a reason not to. It’s about sisterhood, deep wisdom, clarity and profound joy. I’m leaving with a deeper sense of ownership of my own path, and my power“.

Inger Dybvig Kenobi

“I said yes to retreating with Sas because after making many excuses in my head, I listened to my heart. It was beautiful, wholesome, affirming: perfect for me! I left my people pleasing ways at the Retreat and I’m taking home trust in my intuition. I am feeling much more joyous, fully me and a bit invincible!”

Shona Macpherson

“I wanted some time for me. And I wanted to leave some of the rubbish I tell myself behind. It was transformative for me to realise in our first workshop, that despite all the crap I tell myself, I’ve done bloody well and I’m so much more than I thought. I’m feeling recharged and I have such a renewed zest for life. Fuck yeah!

Nicola Dent

“I wasn’t sure if I deserved this kind of investment in tin and money in myself. I’m leaving knowing I absolutely DO! This experience was vulnerable but so safe; like teasing my eyes open to a whole new view of the world and myself. And I know this is just the beginning. It was magical, powerful and so, so real. Sas and the team are completely safe hands to trust yourself into”.

Sue Fontaine

“I had a gut feeling that retreating with Sas was right for me, and it was life-changing. It was incredible to feel so completely supported by the circle, and I felt safe to face my deepest fears. I’m feeling so much more at peace with myself. I’m stronger than I think.”

Karen Cahill

“After a serious mental health diagnosis a few months ago, I needed some time and space away from my regular life to rediscover my sense of self and independence of spirit. The conversations around the table and the fires were magical. When I explored my shadow self, I discovered that one big strand of what I fear is exactly what I want the most; I had never seen this before. I’m going home feeling quietly confident in my strength and abilities. The whole experience was life changing – just so many good things!”

Dr Rae Ritchie

“Go with an open heart and mind and you will experience a magical connection both to your deeper, higher self, and to others.”

Caroline Brewer

“This retreat was one of the most transformative experiences of my life. The gentle, yet powerful processes, ably facilitated by Sas lead me safely and lovingly, into my shadow and then into the light. I feel so very blessed and grateful for this experience.”

Heather Veitch

‘There amidst the underbellies of a soft green leaf, a caterpillar knows. She knows. She spins a cocoon for an oncoming metamorphosis no one else can see, let alone believe. You an I are spinning for a future in our hands. We know that it is time and that we are ready, though we may not know how.’
– Alisa Starkweather

Questions you might have…

What happens after I pay my deposit - can I pay in installments?

Yes! After you secure your spot, you’ll have the option to pay the balance in full, or in three, or five instalments. You will be invoiced monthly via Paypal. Please note all retreat fees must be paid in full by 1st May 2019.

What happens if I can’t come or change my mind?

Please register mindfully as your deposit is your commitment to attend. Your retreat place is transferable but not refundable. This means you can gift or sell your spot to someone else. No refunds will be given.

How do I get to the Retreat?

Our Retreat House is at 42Acres, near Frome in Somerset. This is around two and a half hours from London by car. Trains run directly from Paddington to Frome station which is 20 minutes away. All the details will be sent to you when you sign up.

What if I have food allergies, sensitivities or preferences?

After you sign up, you’ll be directed to a registration form where you can choose from a vegan, vegetarian or omnivorous menu. We will do our very best to accommodate your needs so you feel nourished throughout the retreat with delicious food that loves you back.

Ummm.... what should I wear?

Whatever helps you relax! We’ll be in the countryside and won’t be going ‘off-compound’. Jeans, yoga pants, tracky-dacks (as Shauna calls them) are perfect. Bring a raincoat (and perhaps gumboots) for wandering the grounds.

We will be centrally heated and fires will be blazing, however, the house is a few hundred years old. We suggest you bring warm clothes to be super comfortable.

What do I need to bring?

42 Acres provides towels and hairdryers in all bedrooms & bathrooms.

You’ll find Victoria Ogilvy Sacred Art & Essence toiletries in all the bathrooms. These products are handmade in Somerset using pure essential oils, natural infusions and no synthetics.

I have another question.

I’m so happy to answer any questions you might have – email me at [email protected] and we’ll take it from there.

If reading this invitation feels to you like a full body YES! then nothing would make us happier than to host you at Sacred Shadows, Wild Light.

However, if you feel any twinge of resentment, a fear of missing out, a sense of scarcity, or that any hesitation you have is just an excuse to ‘play small’ in your life, I invite you to free yourself of this untruthiest of truths.

You absolutely do not need to have this kind of experience, to choose to show up differently in your life.

With deep respect for you,
Sas xx
